Skiing in Steamboat Springs: 40º 28’ 35” N; 106º 49’ 36” W

Living in Colorado is teaching me more about skiing every day.I am an absolute beginner, and it is really impressive to see the wide variety of skill sets out there. For starters, I know that there is downhill, like so,

DSC_0259…and cross-country, like this one:

I am personally more excited about photographing the skiers and the unexpected beauty found along the trails. For instance, this beautiful lodge, which was near the featured image in this post. Try as I might, I couldn’t get the whole image to look “straight.”

My attention was also drawn to this mini playground which didn’t have many visitors on an early winter morning.

All images posted here were taken in the Howelsen Hill Ski Area in Steamboat Springs. Speaking of which, did you know that Steamboat has trademarked the term Champagne Powder? The name derives from sparkling wine champagne.
